Pa-Pau & Yia-Yia on the 50th Wedding Anniversary
Pa-Pau & Yia-yia are greek for Grandpa & Grandma. My Grandpa passed away when I relatively young, but I still remember him. He liked to talk walks around the neighborhood, and in the summers, when my sister and I were watched by my grandparents, we would often go with him. I was named after him. His real name was Vasillo, which is greek for William. My mom named me William, but I was almost named Vasillo.
My grandmother passed away recently. We'll always miss her.
How'd they meet? Glad you asked. My great-grandmother lived in Cyprus, and had too many kids. So she sent one of them (my grandmother) to live with another relative in a greek village in Tanzania. So she took a boat over. My grandpa was a stowaway on the boat, and that's how they met. They were married in africa, and had my mom & two aunts. Latter, when Britain was granting autonomy to Tanzania, they decided it would be too unstable & moved to America.
